BRAKE PACKAGE
To brake effectively
The braking system must respond instantly and precisely to your request. A regular check will ensure your safety and prevent you from extending braking distances.
You can choose a braking assessment package for checking the essential braking elements (drums, pads, discs and calipers).
If replacement of parts is necessary, take advantage of the braking packages offered by your DS workshop.

WHY DO BRAKE MEMBERS WEAR?
BRAKE PADS
- Friction linked to braking causes significant heat release.
- The material of the pads, which is softer than that of the discs, will wear out more quickly.
Worn pads can damage the brake disc.
BRAKE DISCS
When braking, they are heavily stressed. Their wear can cause vibrations. The maximum braking efficiency depends on their condition.
BRAKE DRUMS
Moins sollicités que les plaquettes, ils subissent néanmoins les mêmes contraintes.
BRAKE FLUID
- Not only can excessively used fluid cause a loss of braking effectiveness, but a leak in the hydraulic system can also become a potential source of failure. A warning light on the dashboard indicates its alert level.
- In the event of an abnormal drop in the brake fluid level, consult your DS expert immediately.
WHAT ARE THE SIGNS OF WEAR IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM?
THE BRAKE PEDAL
- THE BRAKE PEDAL IS HARD: This may be due to a failure of the brake assist, hydraulic hoses or circuit, wheel cylinders or calipers
- THE BRAKE PEDAL IS SOFT: The pedal sinks into space, you have to “pump” to be able to brake. Be careful, this is a sign of a serious anomaly in the hydraulic system.
YOUR VEHICLE BRAKING
- THE VEHICLE SHIFT WHEN BRAKING: A wheel cylinder or caliper may be seized, or more simply a tire is deflated. Worn shock absorbers can also have the same consequences.
- THE VEHICLE VIBRATES WHEN BRAKING: This is probably caused by defective brake discs, a loose part or excessive play in the front or rear axle.
- THE VEHICLE “SHARS” WHEN BRAKING: If the brakes lock at the slightest request, this may be a sign of a problem with the discs, drums or brake linings.
RELIABILITY AND SAFETY OF DS BRAKES
DS parts offer remarkable qualities and meet strict specifications.
In terms of safety, DS Automobiles' requirements ensure quality of materials, optimized resistance to wear and braking efficiency.

OUR BRAKE ADVICE
The effectiveness of the braking components depends on their condition and is based on various elements: pads, discs, drums and braking drums. For proper operation, it is imperative to:
- Have the condition of your brake pads checked (approximately every 10,000 km). We advise you to replace them when the thickness is reduced to 2 mm.
- Have the brake discs checked each time the pads are changed, to verify that their thickness complies with the rating established by the Manufacturer.
- Have the brake drums checked regularly (approximately every 20,000 km). The segments must be replaced as soon as the thickness of the linings is less than 1.5 mm.
- Have your brake fluid changed at least once every 2 years or every 40,000 km or 60,000 km following the date of first entry into service of your vehicle. This is essential.
